I have shot myself in the foot to many times to count!  Waiting on, waiting for and seeking Perfection Hurt my Business!!

While I was waiting for the perfect moment to contribute to a conversation; someone else chatted up my good idea. While re writing my blog post for the 13th time I wasted hours of time. While I re did my video again and again and again, I became frustrated, agonizing over a missed sentence. I put off doing so many things, procrastinated so many ideas waiting for the perfect moment, perfection of skills, perfection of expression of my message.

I smile and reflect.. How was I that way? How did I become that person seeking perfection before I would or felt I could express my ideas and message??

How could I have forgotten, it was not about me, it is about my message. That we just have to do the very best we can with where we are at and with what we have…

Going back to my old 4-H motto: Learn to Do by Doing!! That is all about Production over Perfection.. That practice makes perfect!! I quote my Dad “Roxanne, perfect practice will get you farther than thinking about how to do it better and waiting. Get out there and do it.” !! Thanks Dad!! Love You !!

So take this twist: How about you nod your head to yourself, understanding that it will never be “just right”, and then just do a “good enough” version for today and make that your bridge to a even better version for your tomorrow!

The best reasons  that stopped me as I sought perfection:
-this idea isn’t half as good as I thought it was a hour ago
-lighting isn’t perfect, the weather sucks!
-I am tired
-the next door neighbors dog won’t shut up
-they guy two doors down is mowing his lawn
-I need to re write this (again)
-I should have washed my hair this morning
-I need to re do my make up

Honestly right now I am laughing as I typed those, because they were are all 100% true!

Remember these few points:

– Our message (weather its a blog post, a Facebook or G+ post, a newsletter, a video whatever it is) It is the message we deliver, it’s the connection we make, the positive difference we can make, the impact we deliver. Take the focus off of you, knowing its about the message, its about “them”.

-We will NEVER be perfect as we are Human; always growing in our ever changing world and swiftly changing marketing environment.

-We are our own worst critics and we have to understand and accept that in our imperfection we can make a deeper more meaningful connection with “Someone” out there, but if we seek perfection, put off action, procrastinate .. SOMEONE else will and IS right now delivering a message; possibly to your friend, your acquaintance, your new lead and contact..

-Seeking perfection will cost you business because while you wait, think, dwell, maybe even pray over it, someone is out there sharing value, tips, content, ideas. They are contributing to our market place and space being a needed voice to hungry ears! Our message, our voice is in us to give; so give it!!
